Best Baby Formula For Colic

Colic Formula and Feedings – Is Your Baby’s Formula Causing Colic?

One of the first possible underlying causes of colic in babies is a formula allergic. In the case of some types of formula, colic can be caused due to the baby’s inability to digest proteins found in the milk, which results in bloating, gas, and abdominal cramping. Constipation can also be a problem with some types of formula – colic is caused in these instances due to the difficulty with bowel function. If your baby has colic and you notice that the crying occurs mainly after feedings, then you may wish to explore alternative formulas, with the advice of your physician. The most common culprit is formula made from cow’s milk, however, depending upon the sensitivity of your baby’s nervous system, it could be caused by other types of milk as well.

Colic Remedies…

Formula comes in several varieties including cow’s milk, soy, "predigested" formulas which have smaller proteins than typical milk, lactose-free formulas, and formula supplemented with rice starch (generally used for babies with acid reflux). Infants with diarrhea, gas or other gastrointestinal problems may need to try one of the alternative formulas in order to minimize colicky behavior. How do you know which type to choose for your baby? Your best option is to discuss it with your child’s pediatrician. Discuss the symptoms, take note of any reactions your baby has after feedings, and be prepared to experiment with different formulas until you find one that works.

Colic Horse…

While you are in the process of finding the right formula to help your baby’s colic, you should be sure to use the same feeding methods, and reduce the amount of air that your baby swallows during feedings. Bottle-fed babies need to be burped more often then breastfed ones, and you should be prepared to keep your little one upright for at least 10 to 15 minutes after each feeding to reduce any potential spit-up and subsequent swallowing of air. Colic, formula, and feedings don’t have to be inevitably joined. If you take the time to address any formula allergies, burp your baby regularly, and attend to any signs of distress promptly, your baby’s colic may go away sooner than you first thought.
